The second stage of the development of Mazatlán’s Tourist Corridor has begun
in El Centro. Parts of the downtown streets of Ángel Flores, 21 de Marzo, and 5
de Mayo are closed and being torn up as part of this project.
Rafael Lizárraga Favela, Undersecretary of Planning, Investment and Tourism Development, said that the project will benefit the people of Mazatlán and improve the image of the city.
He noted that the construction around city hall will enhance the Tourist Corridor, providing areas for pedestrians; adding that the downtown area is one for most visited areas by tourists. Favela said, “We want Mazatlan, as a tourist destination, to have preferential areas for pedestrians, which is the main objective of this project in the historic downtown area with more pedestrian areas.”
He acknowledged that the project is an inconvenience to store owners and those who normally travel through the area, but said that the temporary discomfort is necessary for the good of the city.
