Secretary of Tourism for the state of Sinaloa, Francsico Córdoba Celaya, said yesterday that Carnival Cruise Lines will be returning to Mazatlán this coming September or October.

He said the only missing thing was formalization of the agreement between Governor Mario López Valdez, the Federal Secretary of Tourism, Claudia Ruiz Massieu, and the president of Carnival Cruise Lines.
Córdoba Celaya said with the return of Carnival, four cruise lines would be calling on Mazatlán.

However, the day before Alfonso Gil Diaz, CEO of Mazatlán’s Port Authority, said there has been no confirmation that Carnival Cruise Lines is returning to Mazatlán during the next season or any time during the balance of the current season.

The CEO did say that last year executives of the cruise lines visited the city and held security meetings. The results of that inspection trip and meetings were favorable; however, he added, “Until now we have no news of them returning….”

Gil Diaz did say that the next two months should be good for Mazatlán, noting that during March and April ten cruise ships will call on Mazatlán. An additional cruise ship will call on the port in the month of May, when the 2013-2014 season will end.
