Tourism Grows in Mexico

Despite the insecurity in certain areas of the country, the number of foreign visitors to the Mexico increased by 10.1 percent from January to October of this year, with the arrival of 10.5 million tourists.
The Ministry of Tourism said that, according to the National Migration Institute (INM), this figure exceeds 9.6 million international passengers during the same period in 2013. The foreign exchange earnings from international visitors showed a positive development, reaching the tenth month of this year 13, 034 million dollars, the Bank of Mexico (Banxico) said.
This, said the Central Bank, is equivalent to 16.7 percent compared to 11 thousand 254 million US dollars in the same period last year.
In October this year, 1,096 million entered the country, of which $ 818 million are from tourists who arrived by air, which means an increase of 13 percent compared to October 2013.

Tourism Minister stated that the average expenditure of travelers who entered airway was $ 949.1 USD, a figure 10.1% higher than achieved from January to October last year. Therefore, in the first ten months of 2014  23.2 million tourists were admitted, a figure 18.6 percent higher than those who entered the country in the same period of 2013.
According to the Migration Policy Unit of the Ministry of the Interior (SEGOB), the main source of tourists to Mexico is the United States, with 5.9 million visitors from January to October. After that, Canadian visitors follow, with 1.3 million, and the UK, with 389,000 tourist arrivals.
As for the entry of travelers from emerging economies, the Tourism Ministry also noted that passengers from Colombia rose 24.7%, China 24.4%, Venezuela 9.1%, while Brazil reached 13.7% over the January-October period of 2013.
