The final days of 2014 are coming to a close with Mazatlán hotels registering a 100 percent occupation rate and an “invasion” of tourists celebrating the New Year by the beach.
It is estimated that holiday visitors will improve the port´s economy by 250 million pesos, said the Association of Hotels and Motels president José Ramón Manguart Sánchez.
In addition, the year will end with the arrival in port today of the cruise ship MS Veendam and tomorrow the Norwegian Star and Crown Princess, with a combined total of 7,700 passengers.
Restaurants are reporting an increase of 90 percent in clientele and expect the bonanza to continue until January 2 when most tourists will return home.
According to Fecanaco, the “wave” of international winter tourists celebrating the New Year in Mazatlán has arrived from Texas, Arizona, Ohio and New Mexico, while national tourists are those taking advantage of the Corredor del Norte for easy highway access from the interior to coastal Mazatlán.
Federal Datatur statistics show Mazatlán will increase tourism by eight percent over last year representing approximately two million visitors to the port in 2014.
