Mazatlán, Sinaloa.- Un cierre de año positivo dejó el arribo doble de cruceros a la ruta del pacífico mexicano.

Pese a la recomendación negativa que las navieras hicieron sobre los riesgos de pasear por la ciudad, de no usar sus paseos precontratados, los extranjeros bajaron, caminaron, compraron, se tomaron fotos y hasta bebieron en la machado y zona dorada para empezar a festejar desde temprano la bienvenida del Año Nuevo.

Lo mejor está por venir, aseguró Rafael Lizárraga Favela, subsecretario de turismo de la Sectur Sinaloa, ante la programación ininterrumpida de los 69 arribos de buques turísticos para el 2015, a iniciar desde el próximo miércoles 7 de enero.

El funcionario estatal calificó al año de significativo por el regreso de los cruceros, además de tener hoteles llenos por la gran afluencia de turismo nacional e internacional que cerrará con broche de oro el 2014.

“Esto apenas empieza porque será un 2015, donde no se van a interrumpir los arribos de cruceros, en todos los meses, lo cual es muy bueno y positivo para los prestadores de servicios turísticos”.

Viene la consolidación.

Lizárraga Favela detalló que la temporada de cruceros que termina distribuyó aproximadamente 110 millones de pesos  entre toda la cadena de prestadores de servicios, comercio y empresarios turísticos. “Apenas empezamos la consolidación en materia de cruceros”, agregó.

Sobre todo porque de la agenda calendarizada para el 2015 buscarán convencer al resto de las navieras que faltan de volver, de que Mazatlán se está renovando y capacitando para presentar una oferta turística mayormente competitiva, abundó.

Sobre la alerta de seguridad emitida por Estados Unidos contra Baja California Sur, el funcionario dijo desconocer la mala recomendación, pero confió en que serán los propios pasajeros quienes se den cuenta de que Mazatlán es amigable y seguro.

“Mazatlán está muy bien y nuestro destino seguirá mejorando porque está volviendo con fuerza y tuvo un excelente año”.

Mazatlán está lleno ahora, por los residentes que han llegado, los nacionales que vienen a celebrar el año nuevo y los cruceristas que le están dando un buen cierre de oro, describió el funcionario.

Adelantó que la Secretaría intensificara la capacitación e innovación del sector turístico para que Mazatlán esté listo al desarrollo y crecimiento de la actividad y las inversiones.

Además de preparar la promoción de Mazatlán en FITUR.

The final days of 2014 are coming to a close with Mazatlán hotels registering a 100 percent occupation rate and an “invasion” of tourists celebrating the New Year by the beach.

It is estimated that holiday visitors will improve the port´s economy by 250 million pesos, said the Association of Hotels and Motels president José Ramón Manguart Sánchez.

In addition, the year will end with the arrival in port today of the cruise ship MS Veendam and tomorrow the Norwegian Star and Crown Princess, with a combined total of 7,700 passengers.
Restaurants are reporting an increase of 90 percent in clientele and expect the bonanza to continue until January 2 when most tourists will return home.

According to Fecanaco, the “wave” of international winter tourists celebrating the New Year in Mazatlán has arrived from Texas, Arizona, Ohio and New Mexico, while national tourists are those taking advantage of the Corredor del Norte for easy highway access from the interior to coastal Mazatlán.

Federal Datatur statistics show Mazatlán will increase tourism by eight percent over last year representing approximately two million visitors to the port in 2014.

The holiday travel season is expected to be hectic, but with a little careful planning these tips can help you navigate and save time. ALAMY

It's that time of year again, when we hear how grim the upcoming holiday travel season will be. Yes, planes, trains and roads will be crowded, especially now that the economy is perking up. And there's always the chance that snowstorms will gum up the works. But your holiday travel fate is partly in your own hands. Here are 10 tips — some new, some time-tested — for headache-free traveling during this busy season.

1. Don't Travel on Peak Days

There's no getting around it. Peak travel days are the worst! You've heard it before, but it remains true that traveling the day before Thanksgiving and the Sunday after — whether by air, rail or road — greatly increases your chance of travel woes. Consider adjusting your dates by even a day. This year, the Christmas and New Year's crush should be more spread out because the holidays fall on Wednesdays.

2. Leave Lots of Extra Time

Depart from home far earlier in the day than you would at any other time of year, whether you're starting a road trip or heading to an airport or bus or railway station. Wouldn't you rather not be panicked if you run into traffic congestion, crowded public transit or long security lines? Relax and read or listen to music while you wait for your plane or train; take a restful pit stop if you're driving.

3. Rethink the Airport Experience

An airport is no longer just a transit hub to be rushed through. Many terminals are amenity-filled malls, some with terrific art exhibitions, shops, restaurants and even spas and yoga rooms. Arriving three hours before a flight is a lot more pleasant when you know you can browse, savor a glass of wine, exercise or get a massage.

4. Reserve Airport Parking

Airport parking often fills up during the holidays. But at many lots — especially private ones a short shuttle ride from the terminal — you can prebook, sparing yourself a mad scramble to stash the car before your flight takes off.

5. Avoid Airline Ticket Counters

There is no need to wait in line if you print out boarding passes at home, pull them up on your smartphone or get them at an airport kiosk. If you have an e-ticket, carry a printout of your itinerary. And if you're checking bags, use the skycaps at curbside (remember to tip them generously).

6. Pack Light for Air Travel

Take only a carry-on bag, even if it means leaving an outfit or two at home. That sacrifice will save you time on both ends of the trip, and if your flight is canceled it simplifies scoring a seat on another flight.

7. Have a Backup Plan

You can't predict travel snafus, but you can make like a Boy Scout and be prepared for anything. If you're driving, know alternative routes so you can adjust if traffic is bad. If you're flying, know the alternative flights and connecting cities to your destination in case of delays or cancellations.

8. Bring Provisions

Take snacks, games, books, magazines, portable music or DVD players and other diversions to pass the time if your flight is delayed or you're stuck in traffic. (This is vital, of course, if you're traveling with kids.)

9. Turn Your Phone Into a Travel Tool

Sign up with your airline to receive flight status updates on your phone, or load your smartphone with mobile travel alert apps from Amtrak or state highway authorities. Before leaving home, make sure your phone is fully charged and holds all the numbers you could possibly need, including family, friends, hotel, airline, rental car agency and credit card companies.

10. Think Twice About Holiday Gifts

If you'll be traveling by air, ship presents in advance or shop online and have them delivered to your destination. If you do take gifts along, make them small and packable, and don't wrap them beforehand: Even if they're in checked luggage, security personnel may need to open them for inspection.

Mazatlán’s traditional “callejoneada” through the streets of Centro Historico to view altars created by residents takes place tomorrow night (Nov. 1) beginning at 8pm in the Plazuela Machado.

The theme this year, said Cultura director Raúl Rico, is “El Carnaval de los Muertos” in homage to Rigoberto Lewis who for many years designed the primary floats for Mazatlán’s annual Carnival before he died earlier this year.

After the street walk, celebrants are invited to the Centro Municipal de las Artes (CMA) and Angela Peralta Theater for free performances and art shows.

This year those wishing to see the performances at the CMA and theater must have tickets which are free (4 per family) and available tomorrow at a Cultura booth set up in the Plazuela Machado beginning at 10am. The idea, said Rico, is to regulate the influx of people by dividing them into groups by hour to avoid overcrowding.

MAZATLÁN._ Clubes de todo el País y del extranjero, así como de manera individual se estuvieron registrando a la edición 19 de la Semana Internacional de la Moto 2014.

A pesar de ser hasta hoy la inauguración oficial por la noche en la Plaza de la Moto, ubicada en el estacionamiento del Sam's Club, durante todo el día hubo actividad en el lugar y los registros de participantes no pararon.

David Osuna, miembro del comité organizador y encargado del área de prensa, dijo que en esta ocasión la Semana de la Moto espera rebasar muchas cifras.

"Estamos esperando entre 16 mil y 18 mil motociclistas en esta ocasión, la verdad esperamos tener un récord de participación este año, ya que habrá conciertos de rock, con grupos de gran calidad y entre ellos el popular El Tri", externó Osuna.

Mientras a un costado de la sede del evento continuaban las inscripciones sin parar, al interior de la misma algunos temerarios motociclistas ejecutaban trucos sobre sus bellos ejemplares, sin importar el riesgo que llevaban en cada evolución.

Muchos eran los que los observaban, mientras que otros disfrutaban de la gastronomía del lugar o de los stands con ropa, accesorios y demás relacionados con el tradicional evento sobre ruedas.

Edecanes por doquier caminaban alrededor de la plaza y otras mostraban los artículos en venta en los puestos de exhibición.

A la entrada a la explanada se encontraba montado un escenario, en donde desde ayer ya empezaron a tocar varios grupos musicales de la localidad.

From Sunday, April 13 through Saturday, April 19 Mazatlán played host to 945,100 visitors, according to Francisco Córdova Celaya, Secretary of Tourism for the state of Sinaloa.

He said that on Saturday alone it is estimated that 211,000 people invaded the city’s beaches, while another 30,000 played on the beaches of Stone Island.

Olas Altas, or “Bandódormo” as it was called, had a projected 55,000 people on Saturday.

We saw a lot of tourists from the states of Durango, Jalisco and Monterrey, Córdova Celaya said. He added that many of the tourists returned home yesterday and most of the rest will be leaving the city today.

Francisco Cordova Celaya, Secretary of Tourists for Sinaloa, said that 500,000 tourists are expected to visit Mazatlán during Semana Santa. He added that the economic impact to the city from the tourists will be an estimated 300 million pesos ($22.8 million)

The Secretary of Tourism said that during Semana Santa last year the average hotel occupancy was 86 percent. This year the hotel occupancy is expected to average over 93 percent, with the occupancy level reaching 100% from Thursday through Sunday.

Traffic is also expected to heighten with a projected additional 100,000 cars on the city streets.

Es oficial: no habrá cierre de calles en Semana Santa en Mazatlán

MAZATLÁN._ Contrario a años anteriores, esta Semana Santa no se permitirá el cierre de calles, reafirmó el Oficial Mayor, Salvador Reynosa Garzón.

Luego de sostener una reunión con regidores de la Comisión de Turismo y representantes camarales, el funcionario municipal explicó que los empresarios están "cansados" de que la zona del malecón y la Camarón Sábalo se vea obstaculizada, por lo que no se permitirá el cierre, además de que los espectáculos en la playa y las animaciones podrán hacerlo hasta las 18:00 horas, mientras que los supermercados y depósitos tendrán que cumplir con el horario establecido en su licencia, máximo a las 23:00 horas.

Lo que aún está por definirse es el horario que le permitirán a las bandas musicales para que anden tocando por la zona turística.

Mazatlán will host between 300,000 and 400,000 tourists during Semana Santa and Semana Pascua.

Reservations for hotel rooms in Mazatlán are at 100 percent for Semana Santa and Semana Pascua and it is expected that during the vacation period the city will host between 300,000 and 400,000 tourists, said the Sinaloa Secretary of Tourism. The estimated population of the entire Municipality of Mazatlán is 420,000 people.

In total, Sinaloa will see a million visitors descend on the State.

Francisco Córdova Celaya had a few words of caution for the holidays. If those who have come to enjoy the city don’t drink too much or drive while intoxicated, it will be a good week for families and not one of tragedy.

He asked visitors to help take care of the city, help with not throwing garbage, help with respecting others, to not ride motorcycles and four-wheelers on the beach because lest someone get hurt.

With respect to the proposal to close Olas Altas street during Semana Santa to install a “Bandódromo” as was done during Carnaval this year, the Secretary said he is against closing streets.

Streets are very important, especially the Malecón and should be there to improve traffic, he pointed out.

He suggested many other locations for a Bandódromo such as the Plaza de Toros, baseball stadium and in front of the aquarium.

The proposal to install a dedicated area for bands and musicians to play during the upcoming Easter holidays is to avoid the traffic gridlock and pedestrian congestion that occurs every year in the Zona Dorada.

MAZATLÁN._ Como una alternativa contra los desenfrenos de Semana Santa y la toma de calles por parte de miles de bebedores, empresarios proponen la creación de nuevos espacios de entretenimiento con mayor control de la autoridad.

La novedad para las próximas vacaciones sería la primera edición del "Bandódromo", un corredor peatonal donde toquen bandas locales y música regional a manera de un pequeño Carnaval.

Hasta el momento, se plantean dos opciones para ubicar la sede.

La primera es la Avenida del Mar, en el tramo que abarca desde la Avenida Insurgentes hasta la Avenida Rafael Buelna, la otra opción sería el Paseo Olas Altas.

Lo anterior será sometido a análisis por funcionarios del Ayuntamiento, así como temas relacionados con la venta de alcohol y comercio informal.

Todo esto se discutió anoche en una reunión a puerta cerrada, que se prolongó por más de dos horas.

Al encuentro acudieron, el nuevo secretario de Seguridad Pública del municipio, Juan Antonio Murillo Rojo, así como autoridades de Tránsito, Protección Civil y del Consejo de Seguridad Pública Municipal, quienes escucharon las recomendaciones del Consejo Intercamaral de Mazatlán, compuesto por los líderes de las cámaras empresariales más importantes del puerto.

También estuvieron, el oficial mayor, Salvador Reynosa, y la secretaria del Ayuntamiento, María del Rosario Torres.

"Definitivamente decimos no al cierre de vialidades en Semana Santa, queremos eliminar los riesgos y la mala imagen que se proyecta de Mazatlán con gente tomando en las calles, haciendo sus necesidades en la vía pública y ahorcando el tráfico de manera ilegal", explicó Miguel Hernández Fonseca, dirigente de la Canaco.

De acuerdo al planteamiento, el "Bandódromo" se abriría a partir de las 20:00 horas y hasta las dos o tres de la mañana del siguiente día, durante los días jueves, viernes y sábado santos, por ser los de mayor afluencia de turistas y locales en las playas y zonas de recreación.

Luego de la apertura de la nueva carretera a Durango, empresarios turísticos esperan cifras récord de visitantes en los días "santos", por lo que se intenta modificar el operativo de seguridad.

Hotels Completely Booked for Semana Santa

For the first time in many years, Mazatlán hotels are completely booked for Semana Santa which this year begins on April 14 and ends April 20.

Sinaloa Secretary of Tourism, Francisco Córdova Celaya, said the only alternative for visitors who have not yet booked reservations is to find accommodation in private homes or condominiums, or as a last result, “camp on the beach.”

International Guitar Festival Starts in Mexico

Mexico, Mar 3.- The recognized 14th Guitar Festival of Sinaloa starts today in that state in Northeast Mexico.

The event, scheduled until next Saturday, includes presentations in Culiacán 8capital of the state), and the municipalities of Mazatlán, Guamuchil, Los Mochis and Mocosito.

Among its participants are the Italian virtuous Mauro Zanatta, who has formed generations of well known guitar players in several countries.

Other special guests are Manuel Espinas (Cuba), Hopkinson Smith (Suiza), Cavatina Duo (Bosnia-Spain), Marko Tpchii (Ukraine) and Gilberto Puente, with the Trio Los Tres Reyes (United States).

Mexicans Rene Garcia and Jose Carlos Pestaño, winners of the Sinaloa State Prize Guitar will also be present.

Mexican maestro Jose Gutierrez will direct the 6th Advanced Course on that instrument.

At the same time, 17 guitar players from different countries will compete in the 7th International Contest Sinaloa 2014.

Congrega el desfile carnavalero a miles de personas

MAZATLÁN._ Alrededor de 600 mil personas salieron a las calles, específicamente a la zona del malecón, para disfrutar del primer desfile del Carnaval "Litoralia, la piel del mar" 2014.

La gente se congregó desde la calle 5 de Mayo hasta la disco Valentino, la mayoría acomodadas en una de las 3 mil sillas y graderías que instalaron a lo largo de la zona para observar más de 30 carros alegóricos que recrearon el mar, la selva, los zafaris, y remontaron a los carnavales de Brasil, Cuba, Venecia y Nueva Orleans.

Fueron más de 90 minutos de un recorrido que el Gobernador Mario López Valdez y el Alcalde Carlos Eduardo Felton González presenciaron desde el balcón de la Secretaría de Turismo.

En la primera sección apareció la carroza de la Reina del Carnaval, Lorena I, diseñada por el creador de los carros alegóricos Rigoberto Lewis antes de su fallecimiento, y continuada por su hermana Ana, quien se inspiró en tierras brasileñas y en las mujeres guerreras del Amazonas.

Pero Rigoberto también estuvo presente, aunque no físicamente, sí a través de una figura para anteceder junto con los papaquis el carro de la Reina del Carnaval, como solía hacerlo en cada desfile del Carnaval.

La segunda parte se remontó a Venecia, a sus góndolas y a su fiesta, representada por la carroza de la Reina de los Juegos Florales, Marcela I.

La tercera sección se inspiró en Nueva Orleans, en la música de jazz y su alegría; la Reina Infantil Zuzset I se encargó de trasladar a los espectadores a la ciudad más grande del estado de Luisiana, en Estados Unidos.

El complemento fueron carros bañados de luz, creados por Jorge Osuna.

Durante el desfile, el carro del DIF municipal hizo una pausa para cantarle un fragmento de "Las Mañanitas" a la primera dama del puerto, Sylvia Treviño de Felton, por su cumpleaños que hoy celebra.

Lucero Will Be ‘Burned’ In Mazatlán Carnival Following Her Hunting Photo Scandal

Every year, in the city of Mazatlán, Sinaloa, México, the people celebrate an international renown carnival. It’s one of Mexico’s biggest and best parties, where thousands of costumed revelers throng the streets and beaches. Every year the carnival takes place five days before Ash Wednesday, the beginning of Lent.

Symbolically, the carnival is the feast of the flesh, where everybody lets their inhibitions go and indulge in earthly pleasures. However, it doesn’t mean the streets turn into Sodom and Gomorrah, but instead enjoy the celebrations by dancing, dressing up and joining cultural activities as well as attending concerts and other events.

As soon as the “carnaval” is over, the people, who are mostly catholic, begin a time of meditation and religious ceremonies, culminating with the celebration of “Holy Week,” that remembers the passion of Jesus Christ before he was crucified. One of the main activities of the carnival is the “Sabado del Mal Humor” or “Bad Mood Saturday,” when people burn a big doll representing someone who is supposed to be a shame to the population, or has been the responsible for the town’s bad luck throughout the year. This burning represents an exorcism of all the bad, and it’s done so the celebrations continue happily.

Some victims throughout the year have been politicians, entrepreneurs, celebrities, and even the local baseball team when they don’t do as good during their season. The doll representing the person chosen to be burned, is filled with gunpowder. The people parade it through the important streets of the city and then take it to the stake and carry on with the plan. This year, a celebrity was chosen to be the one burned in the stake. Lucero. Once Mexico’s sweetheart, this singer and actress faced major backlash when some personal photos of a hunting trip with her boyfriend were revealed.

The pictures showed the singer and actress holding a rifle and showing off a dead alpine ibex she had just hunted with her boyfriend. Lucero never really apologized and instead took a defensive attitude claiming the things she does in her private life are no one’s business and those pictures were private. She has been in the down-low lately, after many of her commitments she had previously scheduled were canceled, and now she’s trying to finally clear her image agreeing to appear on “El Gordo y la Flaca.”

However, that doesn’t change the fact that she’s going to get symbolically burned on Saturday. Raúl Rico González, the director of the Mazatlán Institute of Culture, Tourism and Art, who’s in charge of organizing the carnival, said that with Lucero’s burning, they’re sending a message to those who have double standards pretending to be someone they’re not, amongst them mayors, politicians and even society, referencing the capture of “El Chapo” Guzmán and how people have reacted.

MAZATLÁN._ Con una afluencia mayor a 30 mil personas, donde hubo desmayados, niños extraviados y connatos de trifulca, esta noche se realizó en Olas Altas la coronación del Rey de la Alegría del Carnaval de Mazatlán 2014, Adolfo Blanco "El Artista".

En medio de fuegos artificiales, luces multicolores y un ramillete de artistas, encabezado por Chuy Lizárraga, el festejo se le salió de las manos al Municipio y Protección Civil Municipal, pues una afluencia histórica que orilló a elementos de la Policía Municipal acordonar el área para proteger a la muchedumbre.

Almas bullangueras llegaron desde temprano para apartar su lugar, a fin de tomarse la fotografía del recuerdo con sus artistas favoritos.

Alrededor de las 22:10 horas, un homenaje al Carnaval de Cuba transformó el escenario, que tenía como cómplices a La Mujer Mazatleca y a José Ángel Espinoza "Ferrusquilla", al ritmo de "azúcar", bailarines y la música de La Habana, retumbó para recibir al Rey de la Alegría, Adolfo I, quien de manos de la Reina del Carnaval, Lorena I, se le entregó el cetro y el sombrero real.

El júbilo estalló, el pueblo estaba de pie, y en medio de una ovación y aplausos le rindieron pleitesía a su majestad.

Así, en medio de un ambiente tenso, tras caldearse los ánimos la fiesta prosiguió con letras rítmicas, baladas y corridos, que pusieron a bailar a propios y extraños, en medios de barras llenas, establecimientos a reventar y una Carpa Olivera, que "cargó" con cientos de jóvenes, que ante la falta de espacio se pusieron a bailar sobre este balneario.

Con un éxito total, fue como arrancó la primera actividad de la "fiesta de la carne", que estuvo antecedida por Punto Final, Jorge Cordero, y Horóscopos de Durango, artistas que dejaron un buen sabor de boca entre los nacionales y extranjeros.

Y es que, las hermanas Marisol y Vicky Terrazas no pararon de coquetear y saludar a los presentes... "Pura carne fresca arriba del escenario, estamos muy contentas de estar aquí, desde 2009 no veníamos, hay que desestresarse, están en Carnaval".

Así que al ritmo de la banda Escuela de Rancho, las Hosróscopos de Durango le pusieron sal y pimienta al festejo, en la cual sonaron temas como Mi gusto es, Ingratitud, 5 minutos, y un sinfín de letras, que le imprimieron un sabor sin igual a "Litoralia. la Piel del Mar".

Patrocinado por el periódico Primera Hora, la coronación culminó pasada de la medianoche en medio de un ambiente de diversión, color y sabor a Carnaval.

Hoy, en su segundo día de fiesta, la Máxima Fiesta del Puerto, llevará a cabo la coronación de la Reina de los Juegos Florales, Marcela Valdez, en el Estadio Teodoro Mariscal con la presentación de LE DIV4'S en punto de las 20:30 horas.

MAZATLÁN._ La fecha llegó y lo que se espera sea un Carnaval histórico por la afluencia de turistas, tiene otro ingrediente a su favor: Mazatlán se convirtió esta semana en un sitio de referencia a nivel global tras la captura de Joaquín Guzmán Loera en el puerto.

El comercio, el sector restaurantero y la hotelería se dicen listos y reportan reservaciones al tope, mientras la vigilancia policiaca se incrementó en las últimas horas para la fiesta que hoy inicia.

Además, el tráfico vehicular en el puerto aumentó desde la tarde de ayer a raíz del cierre de algunas calles, mientras se espera que este día empiecen los arribos masivos de turistas, principalmente a través de la Supervía Mazatlán-Durango.

El paseo costero y Olas Altas ya fueron inspeccionados en busca de armas. Los puntos de vigilancia fijos, como es el caso de la disco Valentino's, Avenida Carlos Canseco, La Marina e Insurgentes, a la altura de la Avenida Del Mar, no reportan "eventualidades".

De la Sábalo-Cerritos, Camarón-Sábalo y Avenida Del Mar hasta Paseo Claussen, la vigilancia sigue en manos de la Policía Turística y cinco unidades de la Policía Ministerial que realizan patrullajes.

Los servicios de transporte de alquiler también se dicen listos, y aseguran que no habrá abusos en los cobros.
