Between 25 and 30 arrivals are scheduled over the first half of 2014.
The Holland America cruise lines and Norwegian cruise lines both confirmed their return to Mazatlán, with at least 10 arrivals during the remainder of this year and between 25 and 30 arrivals over only the first half of 2014.
Manuel Francisco Córdova Celaya, Sinaloa Secretary of Tourism, who is attending the International Cruise Convention in Miami, reported that during the first meetings with executives from both shipping lines they confirmed their return to Mazatlán.
The head of Sinaloa’s tourism said that the state of Sinaloa was committed to working with both companies in the promotion and advertising of the port throughout the southwest part of the U.S., particularly in California, Oregon, Washington, Arizona, Nevada and Utah.
Córdova Celaya said Holland America and Norwegian officials told them that a perception problem still exists, but if Sinaloa continues its promotion and efforts to further reduce crime rates, this route will become more profitable.
“We have to look at our port and work on more tourist proposals, if we are going to build sales and marketing programs. It would be fabulous if we saw more cruise ships arriving in Mazatlán, he said.
Córdova Celaya added that both cruise lines had also confirmed that on December 24th there will be a cruise ship from each line docked in Mazatlán, whose passengers will spend Christmas in the city.
